Course description
Holding space for students to gain more self-responsibility and agency
The purpose of this training is to learn new tools and practices in holding space for a student to gain more self-responsibility and agency. Most students are learning to do this, and you can empower them to do so. Spaceholding is different from teaching in the sense that a spaceholder holds a very specific space of unknown and uncertainty, where it is safe enough to learning together and invent ways to collaborate in a way that works for the empowerment of the student and for the adviser.
Spaceholding skills involve being able to hold space for students to feel their feelings consciously in a safe way, to hold spaces where vulnerability and invention from the unknown is possible, and where the students learn experientially—not just theoretically— about their own capacity to create their own path, without having a predefined prepared plan.
In this training you might discover your own fears and limiting beliefs that make you want to control the conversation and create a pressure in yourself and in the student. Holding space with a shared awareness of responsibility allows the student to become an adult and face with new tools their own life.
Target group: study advisers
