Course description

Workshop Description

Students expect certain behaviour of their supervisor, but the supervisor also has expectations of his/her students. Questions about responsibilities for supervisor and student arise. In this 2,5 hour workshop you will be provided with some general information about supervising groups of students at Wageningen University and discuss good practices, expectations, basic skills. Furthermore there will be room for questions.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the workshop:

  • You are informed about supervising group work
  • You have discovered the role of supervisor
  • You can explain some basic supervising skills
  • You have some understanding of group dynamics

Target group & Prerequisites

The workshop is meant for teaching staff, Postdocs and PhD‘s who are about to start supervising group work, or have just started, at Wageningen University. So the workshop is only open for supervisors at the start of their supervising thesis students and who need some extra information and sharing about the do’s and don’ts. This workshop is an introduction to supervising. If you want a follow-up once you started supervising at least two students, we recommend the course Supervising Group Work or the course Group Supervision in real-life learning (group work working on a real-life case, that involves a commissioner/case owner)

Literature

You can find basic information on our intranet page.

None required, the hand-out of the presentation will be sent afterwards.

None. This course is not part of the UTQ programme.

Costs

Participation is free for Wageningen University & Research staff involved in teaching WU courses.
